Bring it on

Crystal Falls belongs to the Heart Mark list of products, which are products that have been professionally tested by an independent laboratory to prove that they are heart healthy. The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa endorses these products with the Heart Mark Stamp of Approval, to help South Africa make heart healthier food choices.
It is estimated that approximately 240 people suffer a stroke in South Africa daily, while it's a common notion that only elderly are affected by it. According to international data, approximately 25% of people who suffer a stroke are of economically active age and approximately 2.5% are below the age of 30.

Charlene Murray and George Scola were in their 30's when they had a stroke. The realisation of a complete lack of awareness surrounding stroke survival in South Africa dawned upon both Charlene and George, thus they put their hearts and minds together to form The Stroke Survivors Foundation.

Their Mission Statement:
To create a national network that provides post-discharge rehabilitation and support for stroke survivors, their families and caregivers.

Their Vision:
  • To provide a support structure to stoke survivors who do not have a support team;
  • To reduce the burden of financial stress;
  • To reduce the burden on the caregivers;
  • To keep the stroke survivor motivated;
  • To improve access to rehabilitation centres.

In order to create much needed awareness around stroke survival, the foundation launched the Bring it On Campaign to gain nation-wide exposure. The idea was simple, to walk from Beit Bridge, in the far north of the country, to Cape Point, in the far south. The execution, was labouring.

George, who was released from hospital in a wheelchair a few years prior, was tasked with walking the full 2400 km distance. He was supported by Ray Chaplin (professional adventurer, campaigner and educator), as well as joined by as many fellow survivors as the road could handle. The outcome was groundbreaking, and Crystal Falls was there to meet him at his destination.
